Glow-Getter Tips for a Radiant Complexion
Hey there Beautiful! Are you ready to get your glow on? Having healthy, glowing skin not only makes your skin look good, but it helps you feel your best too! So, let’s not delay! We’ll jump right into some tips to help you get skin that radiates!
What is Dull Skin?
Dull skin is often defined as tired, dry, lackluster and bringing emphasis to our problem areas, such as wrinkles. Yikes! No one that I know wants that. The solutions to getting glowing skin are not difficult, but they do need to be done consistently.
Causes of Dull Skin
1. DEHYDRATION
I know I sound like a broken record, but if you are not getting enough water, you will be dehydrated and so will your skin. Dehydrated skin can make those dark circles under your eyes look even darker, as well as looking dull.
Solution: Drink LOTS of water EVERY day! There are great health benefits for drinking water, including hydrating your body and your skin. Eight glasses of eight ounces every day – grab that water bottle every day.
2. NOT EXFOLIATING
Did you know that our skin is the largest organ on our body? It absolutely is, and EVERY day, our skin sheds MILLIONS of skin cells. Kind of gross, huh? Cleansing day and night is essential to having good, clean skin, but it is not a guarantee that it can remove all the dead skin cells in its entirety. Some dead skin cells are just flat out stubborn and don’t fall off easily, which is why exfoliating is so important. It is the trick to get those stubborn dead skin cells removed. If you don’t exfoliate weekly, those dead skin cells can result in tiny layers of dead skin left on your face, leaving your complexion not only dull and lackluster, but some even describe their skin as having a grayish tint. You don’t want that!!
Solution: Exfoliate every week! Depending on the product, exfoliation can occur 1 – 3 times a week. Exfoliating is a necessary step of the skin care routine because it DOES remove dead skin cells from your face, leading way to a brighter, glowing, complexion. Be sure to make sure you find an exfoliator that works best for your skin type to make sure you are giving yourself the best chance for your skin to GLOW!

3. FREE RADICALS
What are those, you ask? Basically all the tiny, microscopic filth that is in the air, (i.e., pollution), and even if you don’t live in a big city, free radicals are everywhere. If you are around machinery, dirt, sand, smoke of any kind, chemical cleaning supplies, etc., you are around free radicals, and free radicals do significant damage to your skin.
Solution: Wash your face, morning and night with a quality cleanser. Makeup wipes are not cleansers, so while it does help get the makeup off your face, it is not a thorough enough cleaning of your face and should not be used as a substitute because free radicals may still remain. So, take that makeup off, but definitely don’t skip cleansing.

4. THE BEAUTIFUL, GLORIOUS, WARM SUNSHINE
Even if we love living in the north, we all love sunshine. It helps our moods, brings out happy feelings, incents us to get outdoors, have a picnic, bicycle, walk, kayak, rock hunt, hike…and the list goes on and on. The sun is an important part of our lives, and we can’t live without it, but we do need to learn how to smartly live with it.
Solution: Sunscreen, hats and sunglasses! These are three necessities if you are ever out in the sun for any length of time. Sunscreen for your face, and in your makeup if possible, and on your body! A hat and sunglasses give those delicate areas on your face extra protection, and when it comes to extra protection on your face, extra protection is always good!

5. DIET
Let’s talk about what you put in your body. I am not judging at all, because one of my favorite food groups is chocolate, so trust me, I get it. However, we can’t deny the research that eating a well-balanced diet that is rich in vitamins and minerals will do wonders for your skin. Fruits and veggies are loaded with antioxidants (which whenever you hear that word, know it’s a good thing) which help protect your skin from damage caused by free radicals, so eat your veggies and drink your water, and you’ll have a head start on the road to glowing skin.
6. FACE MASK
Ooooh, this is seriously one of my favorite self care practices! A quality facemask is not only relaxing but soooo good for your skin! Find one that is good for your skin type and that targets specific pain points your skin may be experiencing, such as hydration, sun damage, acne, etc. Face masks can be done 1–3 times per week depending on the mask, and if you want to save time, find a scrub that acts both as a mask and exfoliator.

7. STRESS
Stress negatively affects all parts of our bodies, including our skin. Finding healthy outlets to manage stress is good for both your physical and your mental health, and are a necessary part of your daily life.
Solution: Incorporate an exercise routine to help increase the blood flow and oxygen in your system which is great for your overall health and your skin health. Go for a bike ride or walk, find ways to laugh with family and friends, create some quiet time each day to unwind, read a good book, or my personal favorite, take a bath. Bath’s are a great way to relax your mind, and when you add either soaking salts that include Epsom salts or bath fizzies, your skin will get a moisturizing boost as well!
8. LACK OF SLEEP
It’s not called beauty sleep for nothing. Getting enough sleep is crucial for healthy skin. When you sleep, your skin cells repair and regenerate themselves, so make sure you catch those Z’s for that fresh, dewy skin!
There are a number of reasons why dull skin can occur, but these 8 causes are some of the most common. However, the good news is that the solutions are not hard to implement. They just need to be done consistently. Consistency is key! So, commit to incorporating these solutions into your daily and weekly routine, and get ready to get your glow on!
